Abstract

Aim of the study: In vivo study was conducted to compare the effect of two different denture base materials (rapid heat cure acrylic resin and modified rapid heat cure acrylic resin with titanium dioxide nanoparticles) on the retention of the maxillary complete denture. Materials and methods: Twelve patients with completely edentulous maxilla were randomly selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria, primary impressions were made using irreversible hydrocolloid, secondary impressions were made using green stick compound as a border molding material and Zinc oxide/eugenol as a final wash impression material then the master casts were duplicated using duplicating silicone, both dentures were processed in boiling water for 20 minutes, each patient received two dentures; rapid heat cured acrylic denture base and modified rapid heat cured acrylic denture base with titanium dioxide nanoparticles then retention was measured using digital force gauge device. Results: showed that there was a statistically significant difference between the two types of denture base materials that the modified rapid heat cured acrylic resin with titanium dioxide nanoparticles showed a higher mean value of retention than that of the rapid heat cured acrylic resin. It was concluded that addition of titanium dioxide nanoparticles will improve the retention of the complete dentures
