Abstract Weather is a very important factor in aviation. Severe weather may lead to dangerous situations in air transportation. While National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) reports most commonly find human errors to be the direct accident causes, weather is a primary contributing factor in 23 percent of all aviation accidents. Air traffic controllers are always interested to know the current and forecasted weather conditions at the airport. Weather affect the airlines to a large extend. Severe weather may cause diversion, delay, or cancelation of flights. A comprehensive study is provided to dear up different factors contributing flight safety. The first chapter provides an investigation in meteorological factors that affect flight safety, and its impacts on aviation. In chapter two, the general characteristics of Sudan are examined. In chapter three we study cases (accidents) which were affected by weather conditions. It is concluded from this study that most of the weather related accidents are due to strong wind, wind shear, or thunderstorms. So that accurate weather forecast will help to avoid weather related accidents |
