Abstract

Objectives: Telescopic denture have been documented to retain dentures more effectively than the conventional claps system because of their ability to transmit occlusal loading to the long axis of the abutment tooth and to provide guidance, support and protection from movement.Nowadays, the CAD CAM technology became one of the most important developments happened in the dental field at the twenty-one century. Consequently, all dental labs started to shift their services to the digital manufacturing where less material consumed, saving time and effort and capability of mass production CAD/CAM technologies can be successfully applied in the fabrication of removable partial denture alloy frameworks. the aim of this study was to evaluate the patient satisfaction and biting force in In partially edentulous patients with mandibular distal extension removable partial dentures retained by CAD-CAM designed telescopic crowns in comparison to that retained by conventional clasps. Methods:This study was conducted on forty two patients to evaluate two treatment modalities used for rehabilitation of mandibular distal extension cases to study the effect on biting force and patient satisfaction. At the beginning, all selected patients were introduced to a randomization process to be divided randomly into two groups identical in number 21 patient in each group.First group: (intervention group) the patient received mandibular telescopic partial dentures designed by CAD/CAM system.Second group: (control group) the patient received mandibular removable partial dentures designed by CAD/CAM system. Results:Telescopic RPD group recorded statistically significant improvement when compared to clasp retained RPD at three and six months follow-up periods.P value < 0.0001andalso this group showed statistically significant improvement of the biting force compared to that of clasp retained RPD group at all follow-up periods.
