Abstract

Endotracheal in tubationisa common procedure in neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Endotracheal tube (ETT) position can be confirmedby using chest radiography; but chest X- ray isoftende layed and patients are exposed to ionizin gradiation. Ultrasound diagnostics (USD) might bea new, quick and safe method to con firm correct ubeplacement. This study was done to compare the accuracy of deter mination of position of ETT by ultrasound and plain chest radiographin NICU patients. from March 2015 to March 2016 one hundred in tubated neonates were enrolledin this study from the NICU in AbuElreish children’s hospital, Cairo university. Ultrasonography was abletoidentify ETT tipin 100% of neonates. There was statistically significant relation between ultrasound and chest radiograph to determine ETT position in NICU patients (Pvalue<0.001). We conclude that visualization of ETT tipan ditsdistance of 0.6 to 1.2cm from upper border of arch of aorta by US performed by trained personnel, using 5-8 MHz probe, suggests correct position (idealand accepted position). So wecon clued that ultrasonography is help fulin early identification of the level of ETT tip
