Abstract

The purpose of this study was to provide a normative data for hand grip strength in different school grades and its correlation to anthropometric measures. Seven hundred and fifty seven healthy children of both sexes were selected from different schools at Shoubra City (Egypt) with the age range between 7 to18 years. They were selected from the three school stages: primary stage (7 to12 years), preparatory stage (13 to15 years), and secondary stage (16 to18 years).Anthropometric measures were taken including (upper arm, forearm. whole arm length and hand width for both hands). Hand grip strength was measured by hydraulic hand dynamometer. Subjects were asked to create maximal force on the dynamometer three trials for both right and left hand. The highest value of three trials was recorded. Results of this study revealed a statistically significant difference in hand grip strength in both genders for dominant and non- dominant hands with boys showed higher grip strength than girls. Conclusions, a positive correlation was found between anthropometric variables and hand grip strength
