Abstract
The aim of adopting electronic medical record is to improve the quality of nursing care and minimizing wasting time of indirect nursing care by new solutions to make nurses have the scope of patient centered care otherwise have little concern about indirect nursing care unit related tasks and documentation time. Descriptive correlational design was utilized to attain the aim of the present study. Sample: convenient sample of 94 nurses. Setting: Children Cancer Hospital Egypt (CCHE) (57357). Tools: Data was collected through four tools developed by the investigator. First tool: Demographic data sheet, second tool: Electronic Medical Record Nurses competencies Observational Checklist,Third tool: Quality of nursing care Observational check list, forth tool: Nurses time utilization observational checklist. Results: the study result found that half of the study sample had moderate electronic medical record competencies. The majority of the study sample had moderate and high quality of care; most of nurses perform the nursing care within 141-145 minutes. There is highly significance correlation between user competencies of electronic medical record and the quality of nursing care, significance correlation was found between Electronic Medical Record competencies and nurse’s time utilization, insignificance correlation was found between quality of nursing care and nurse’s time utilization. Recommendations; Establish training program based on continuous evaluation of the nurses competencies on Electronic Medical Record and identifying their needs, Preparing orientation program for the nursing leaders so that they can detect and follow the data entry defect of nurses and guide them
