Abstract

Two hundred and nineteen samples were collected from poultry (chicken, pigeon, duck and turkey). Pigeon samples showed highest percentage of isolation with percentage of 27% followed by chicken with percentage of 23% while turkey showed 0%. The predominant isolates of the chicken were identified as C.coli with percentage of 55.6%while the C.jejuni was the most predominant isolates in pigeon isolates with the percentage of 58.8% and two isolates were untyped by culture methods. The highest percentage of isolation was recorded in the summer with a percentage of 35.7% followed by winter with a percentage of 27.4%, and then autumn with percentage of 14% and 0% was recorded in the spring. This study aimed to compare Campylobacter spp. detection by molecular method (multiplex real time polymerase chain reaction) and Ag capture ELISA to the culture method, 76 samples were selected from previous collected samples depended on case history. Out of 76 samples tested (27.6%) were positive by culture method, (85.5%) were positive by Ag capture ELISA and 76.3% were positive by multiplex real time PCR. The Campylobacter spp. identified by culture method were 10 (45.5%) C. jejuni and 12 (54.4%) C. coli while multiplex real time PCR was identified 33 (56.9%) C. coli, 17(29.3%) C.jejuni and 4 (6.1%) as mixed C.jejuni and C.coli
