Abstract Social media is a service that provides the facility to the general mass to communicate expressing their feelings, ideas, and opinions.Though the main purpose is communication, it reflects people{u2019}s behaviors and relationships. Analysis of data within social media is an opportunity to discover behaviors of individuals and groups of people. This research is motivated by Middle East Arab Spring in 2011, since the activities on social media increased as a reaction to the events occurred. Twitter is characterized as an opinion and comment expression media on particular issue. An issue, about an event or a piece of news, is posted as a hash-tag; it creates a wave of responses from those who are interested in the issue. Thus the number of tweets can be assumed as a measure of interest in this particular issue. The hypothesis in this research is that the number of tweets within a period of time has a pattern, lifecycle. A hash-tag starts at a point; tweets start to increase to reach a peak, and then start to fade away. This research investigates the tweets lifecycle to gauge the activity of Twitter users towards various events within a specific time interval |
