Abstract

Liver cirrhosis with HCV chronicity is complicated by extensive hemostatic dysfunctions. Therefore, cirrhosis may be associated with bleeding or thrombotic events. The prevalence of hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke (IS) in HCV positive cases ranged between 0.80 - 34.33% and 0.85 - 26.55% respectively.
This Case control, prospective study carried out on two goups of patients:
- group (A) : included 32 HCV infected patients presented with newly onset cerebrovascular stroke.
- group (B): included 32 patients with newly onset cerebrovascular stroke without HCV infection.
These patients selected from the patients attending the emergency department of Menoufia University and Institute, Menoufia University. After meticulous history taking and neurological examination for all patients, those presenting with cerebrovascular stroke confirmed by CT or MRI of brain was included in this study. These patients followed for 2 weeks and then extended follow up for 3 months done.
The aim of this study was to predict of Outcome of newly onset cerebrovascular stroke in HCV infected patient & search for any variables that could predict it.
Inclusion criteria:
Selected HCV positive patients based on the presence of clinical, laboratory, and imaging evidence of chronic liver disease however selected Ischemic Stroke patients based on the presence of acute episodes of focal neurologic deficit of new onset lasting > 24 hours. Informed consents were obtained from all patients & controls included in the study approved by the local ethical committee of the Faculty of Medicine, Menoufia University at June 2021.
