Abstract Knowledge is the greatest weapon in the fight against diabetes mellitus. Information can help people assess their risk of diabetes, motivate them to seek proper treatment and care, and inspire them to take charge of their disease.Proper education and awareness programs have previously been shown to change the attitude of the public regarding diabetes. Improving knowledge of the people can improve their attitude towards diabetes and in the long run change their practices to embrace healthier lifestyles such as eating healthy foods, and engaging in physical activity.The aim of this study is to increase awareness of diabetic patients attending El-Saba’a banat health unit about therapy compliance in order to improve their health status. This will be accomplished through the following objectives: 1. To assess knowledge about diabetes among the studied patients. 2. To assess therapy compliance of the studied patients. 3. To identify the effect of the health education intervention on knowledge and therapy compliance among the studied patients. This study was an intervention study (non randomized controlled trial) by health education conducted on diabetic patients in El Saba`a Banat primary health care unit in El-Ismailia city during the period from March to August 2012. |
