Abstract

Diabetic foot become infected frequently, can be expensive and difficult to treat and usually are the first step towards amputation of a lower extremity . However of all chronic complications of diabetes, foot problems and their risk factors are the easiest to detect and the simplest to prevent. Our study aimed to improve the quality of life of diabetic patients through increasing awareness about foot care and enhancing the correct attitude of foot care in order to save limbs and lives.
This study designed to assess foot self care in diabetic patients ,to detect professional foot care education and provision of profesional foot examination to examine foot health status and to identify patients at risk of foot complications. Subjects and methods :A cross-sectional study was conducted on patients suffering from type II diabetes mellitus attending the diabetic and vascular clinics at Zagazig university hospitals at Elsharkia governorat ,Egypt. from march 2018 to December 2018. The sample size was 266 patients .All the studied patients were subjected to a questionnaire to describe the socio-demographic data & diabetic history and Foot disease related to diabetes in diabetic patients . Clinical examination of the foot of the studied patients was also done for (dermatological, muscular, neurological and vascular) assessment. Then collected data were computerized and statistically analyzed. Results :less than 60 years old, duration of diabetes was 5-10 years, had education up to level of basic and secondary school education(72.9%),
