Abstract

Hemorrhages from the nasal cavity are called epistaxis or nose bleeds. Epistaxis is not a disease; it is a symptom. It is a highly common ENT emergency. Yet its exact prevalence is not known, and studies report a wide range about 60% cases in the population, with only 6% of those seeing a physician. Epistaxis is rarely life threatening but may cause significant concern, especially among parents of young childrenThe aim of this work is to determine the risk factors of epistaxis in primary school Children and its effect of on quality of their life in family health center at Sanafa – Mit-Ghamr city - Dakahlia governate.The study conducted at Sanafa Family Health Center– Mit-Ghamr city- Dakahliagovernate. on 312 child aging (6-12) years of both sex. Children who are attending the health unit asking for any medical advice.The most frequent risk factors among the studied group were smoking, head trauma, factory gases, chronic cough and URTI (56.7%, 45.8%, 35.6%, 32.7% & 30.1% respectively).The prevalence of epistaxis among the studied group was 32.4%.Regarding seasonal variation 67.3% increase in summer. In 61.4% of the cases it was associated with fatigue and lethargy, in 57.4% associated with scratching inside nose, in 74.3% idiopathic, in 29.7% after FB entrance and in 6.9% it associated with travelling with plane. Finally, 32.7% had family history and 28.7% had +ve consanguinity.
