Abstract

Research on novel techniques for water purification has recently shifted away from approaches that involve the phase transfer of contaminants (such as from liquid to solid using activated carbon or any other adsorbent) and toward methods that involve the chemical destruction of contaminants. The method that appears to be developing the fastest for the breakdown of aqueous organic pollutants is called advanced oxidation process (AOP). Either homogeneous or heterogeneous photo-catalysis can be used to increase the degradation efficiency of photochemical AOPs. Homogeneous AOPs include H2O2/UV, O3/UV, Fenton, and photo-Fenton, whereas heterogeneous processes utilize semiconductors such as TiO2/UV and ZnO/UV.It provides a general introduction and literature survey of several subjects, such as water pollution with pesticides and other organics, and the quantification of pesticides in water and food. This chapter discusses wastewater treatment techniques, the advanced oxidation process, and the basics of homogeneous and heterogeneous photocatalysis. It focuses on the mechanisms, kinetics, and factors influencing the photocatalytic degradation processes. The preparation of the catalysts, modifications, and applications for wastewater treatment were discussed, especially titanate nanoparticles. This chapter ended with the aim of the work.
