Abstract Anatomically, the integument is a complex organ system consisting of the skin and its embedded accessory appendages .The thin external covering is the epidermis, and the deeper layer of the skin is the dermis. The hypodermis, also known as the subdermal layer, and is composed of adipose tissue. The thin epidermis is composed of five cellular layers, or stratums : corneum, lucidum, granulosum, spinosum, and germinativum or basal layer. The most superficial layer is the stratum corneum. CO 2 lasers use water as the chromophore. Depths of the microscopic columns range from 0.2 to 4.0 mm. Laser treatment is safe to commence within months of injury. There are two scales for measuring postburn scars after treatment by fractional carbon dioxide laser that are Vancouver Scar Scale and Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale. Fractional carbon dioxide laser is safe for treatment of postburn scars and give good results. |
