Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of different surface treatment on push-out bond strength between customized modified polyetheretherketone (PEEK) post (CAD &PRESSED) and Prefabricated Glass fiber reinforced composite post as controlled group.
Methods: 35 single rooted incisors were divided into two groups of seven each (n=7). All the specimens were subjected to endodontic therapy, followed by post space preparation. The fiber post was silane coated and were subsequently cemented with dual cure resin cement (Total cem, ITENA, FRANCE).While peek posts with two fabrication techniques (cad cam & press) were subjected to two surface treatment air abrasion and piranha solution then coated with Visio.link universal primer finally cemented by with dual cure resin cement. Bonding of the specimens was done according to the manufacturer instruction using (Total cem, ITENA, FRANCE). All the samples were sectioned into three regions of each 2mm thickness and were subjected to push out bond strength analysis. The shear bond strength was measured using a universal testing machine. Bond strength was compared using one way ANOVA and Independent T test.
Result: The push out bond strength for customized modified polyetheretherketone (PEEK CAD) was found to be highest followed by (PEEK PRESSED) and the least one was glass fiber reinforced composite resin post with no significant difference statistically.
After surface treatment by air abrasion& piranha solution:
There is statistically significant difference in push out bond strength of peek post to resin cement when treated by piranha solution.
The mean push out bond strength of customized modified PEEK post &fiber post showed significant differences in all the three regions, with the highest bond strength observed at the cervical region.
Based on the findings of this in vitro study, the following conclusions were drawn:
1. Push out bond strength of PEEK CAD, PEEK PRESS & fiber post were comparable.
2. Surface treatment of PEEK posts with acid etching by piranha solution (3: 1) for 30 seconds found to be highly recommended.
3. The bond strength of PEEK (CAD, PRESSED) &fiber posts to resin cement was significantly higher in the coronal section than that in other sections.
