Abstract Chronic HCV infection has been associated with numerous extrahepatic manifestations (EHM). These manifestations can involve multiple organ systems, including renal, dermatologic, hematologic, and rheumatologic systems. Up to 74% of HCV-infected patients experience at least one extrahepatic manifestation and up to 46% have at least one dermatologic manifestation. Skin manifestations also observed in patients receiving combined therapy of interferon alfa and ribavirin there are most likely due to synergestic immunomodulatory effect of this combination. It may be difficult to differentiate between HCV-related and therapy-related skin changes. This study was carried out to detect the frequency of dermatological manifestations associated with chronic HCV infection and its treatment. The patients were recruited from Tropical Medicine Department, Zagazig University Hospitals and Insurance Hospital at Hehia during the period from Augest 2014 to Augest 2015.This cross sectional study included 157 patients : which were divided into 2 groups :group 1: Includes 117 patients with chronic HCV infection who didn’t receive antiviral treatment (67 males and 50 females).group 2: Includes 40 patients with chronic HCV infection who received antiviral treatment (peg- interferon and ribavirin ), (27 males and 13 females). |
