Abstract

The physicochemical parameters were determined in this study include pH, temperature, electrical conductivity (EC), turbidity, total alkalinity, total hardness, natural organic matter (NOM), ammonia, total organic carbon (TOC), iron, sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, chloride, nitrate, silica, phosphate, sulfate and dissolved oxygen. The results are expressed as mean value, which are summarized in the following:Chemical parameters were increased during the autumn and winter seasons due to the drought period (low flow conditions). NOM and TOC were increased during winter seasons due to pollution with sewage and domestic wastes of El-Rahway drain and agricultural wastes. The results revealed that the water quality along the studied area in the Rosetta branch is influenced by drains discharge and the presence of fish cages in the area The increase of ammonia was obtained due to the presence of fish cages in the study area. The highest ammonia concentration (13.2 ± 1.1) was recorded in the winter of 2019, while the lowest value (1.03 ± 0.36) was in the summer of 2020  The changes in the water quality of the river Nile during the flood period (Jan. 2020 to Feb 2020) where the value of turbidity is increased to 39.11 NTU and NOM increased to 29.7 mg/l.
