Abstract

Summary and conclusion Conotruncal anomalies are a group of congenital heart defects that involve the outflow tracts of the heart and the great vessels. It accounts for approximately 30% of the congenital heart disease being characterized by anomalies of the cardiac outflow tract or of the great arteries. Developmental abnormalities of the embryonic conus arteriosus (infundibulum) and the truncus arteriosus result in abnormal ventriculoarterial alignments and connections, outlet septation defects, outlet hypoplasia, stenosis, or atresia. The major conotruncal anomalies are tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), transposition of the great arteries (TGA), double-outlet right ventricle (DORV), truncus arteriosus, and congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries. The aim of the study was to assess the role of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging in evaluation of conotruncal anomalies. The study included 50 patients previously diagnosed or suspected by echocardiography to have conotruncal anomalies; they underwent cardiac MRI in the period from August 2020 to July 2022. The suitable patients were subjected to history taking, clinical examination, echocardiography and cardiac MRI. Twenty-nine of the Conotruncal patients were males (58%) and twenty-one were females (42%) , with mean age 14.5±10.35 years
