Abstract Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease refers to a range of conditions result in build-up of fat in the liver. There are a number of symptoms of fatty liver including nausea, dark urine, abdominal pain, weight loss, excessive fatigue, jaundice, pale stool, loss of appetite, and easy bruising. In the present study, the pathogenic mechanism of fatty liver disease has been studied. Ceramides have been shown to exacerbate NAFLD development through enhancing insulin resistance, reactive oxygen species production, liver steatosis, lipotoxicity and hepatocyte apoptosis, and eventually causing hepatic inflammation and fibrosis. The pathogenic effect of ceramides on fatty liver disease has been discussed. Also, the effect of protein kinase on the progression of the fatty liver disease has been studied. Finally, the treatment of fatty liver disease by changing the lifestyle and medications has been mentioned. |
