Abstract Neonatal sepsis (NS) is a serious but fairly common medical condition. Despite recent improvements in neonatal infection therapy, mortality and morbidity are still very high. Therefore, accurate and prompt diagnosis of NS is crucial but, regrettably, fairly challenging. In light of the difficulties in diagnosing NS, novel markers are sought after and employed. In an ideal world, these would satisfy the following requirements: they would enable early and late-stage infection identification and prompt response to appropriate treatment. |
