Abstract The study was conducted over 1 year (Aug. 2013/ Aug. 2014) recruiting 100 patients (median age of 18 months) with acute lower respiratory tract infection (Pneumonia /Bronchiolitis). The viral infections were detected in 68% as follows; RSV 51.4%, Influenza A 17.6%, Adenovirus14.7%, Metapneumovirus 11.7% & Influenza B 4.4%. Complications were detected in 45% among all cases as follows; Acute Life Threatening Event 57.7%, pulmonary complications 37.7% & Myocarditis 11.1% out of cases with complications. It revealed that severity of lower respiratory tract infections determined by Modified Wood{u2019}s Score was statistically significant for hospital admission and ICU admission (P value < 0.001) |
