Abstract

The present study aimed to survey some of the metazoan parasites infecting some coral reef fish species captured from hurghada city on the red sea (Egypt). 326 fish specimens were collected during this study at the period from June 2014 to October 2015. Twelve different species of investigated fish were infected and belonging to nine families. These were, the humphead wrasse Cheilinus undulates and the arabian mallas thalassoma klunzingeri (family: labridae), the haffara sea bream rhabdosargus haffara, the gilt head sea bream Sparus aurata and the common sea bream pagrus pagrus (family: sparidae), the marbled spinefoot Siganus rivulatus (family: siganidae), the lizard fish saurida tumbil (family: synodontidae), the yellow spotted travelly carangoides orthogrammus (family: carangidae), the red mullet Mullus surmuletus (family: mullidae), the black spot snapper lutjanus fulviflamma (family: lutjanidae), the gold stripe sardinella Sardinella gibbosa (family: clupeidae) and the big-scale sand smelt atherina boyeri (family: atherinidae). Five different species of monogenean parasites were recovered, (paramicrocotyle tampicensis, haliotrema bodiani, haliotrema curvipenis, pseudohaliotremotoides polymorphus eilaticus and Pseudohaliotremotoides rivulatus sp. nov.), six different digenean parasites (phyllodistomum hoggettae, gyliauchen volubilis, tubulovcsicula serrani, magnacetabulum leiognathi, transversotrema licinum and helicometra hypoditis) and nine different nematode parasites - procamallanus sihamai, procamallanus anguillae, procamallanus pereirai, procamallanus pacificus, echinocephalus overstreeti fourth stage larvae, Hysterothylacium reliquens third stage larvae, terranova sp. third stage larvae, neocamallanus singhi second stage larvae and buckleynema buckleyi larval stage
