Abstract

The main objective of this study is to develop algorithms for hyperspectral remote sensing of water quality based on in-situ spectral measurement of water quality parameters of the Nile river in Egypt and Sudan. It depended on the usage of spectroradiometer measurements data combined with measurement of selected sample points. Radiance value for each band of spectroradiometer data has been calculated, observed and compared with in situ measurements of water quality parameters. The study area covers the Nile River in a part of the Imbaba and Alkanater Giza Menoufia including some sources of contaminated water. This area is located between 31{u00B0} 0 ”0 ”to 31 {u00B0} 12’ 0” N Latitude and 29 o 59’ 30 ”to 30 {u00B0} 16’ 0” E longitude. The studied water quality parameters included TSS, TDS, SSC, EC, COD, BOD, Turbidity, Chl, Temperature and Total count microbiology. Using data from Spectroradiometer measurements and data from water quality parameters are statistically analyzed using correlation. Multiple linear regression models were developed, where the most appropriate band combinations having highest R² value were selected. The predicted equations from multiple linear regression water quality parameters were then compared with the values obtained from laboratory analysis of water quality. Appropriate band combinations of spectroradiometer were used in estimation of water quality parameters. Results revealed that all water quality parameters were significantly correlated with spectroradiometer measurements data
