Abstract The aim of this work was to systematically review the studies which assess the effect of compression therapy on lymphedema. Systematic review of all published studies with all research designs except expert opinions. A search was made in pub med, cochrane library, PEDro and google scholar. Intervention: Effect of compression therapy on lymphedema post mastectomy with age between thirty to eighty years. Outcome measures: Limb circumference and volumetric measurements. Six studies met the inclusion criteria. Meta analysis was done and findings were presented qualitatively due to heterogeneity of the studies. There was conflicting evidence on whether compression therapy could decrease the lymphedema volume (circumference). Three studies underwent meta-analysis for the outcome of lymphedema reduction assessed by volumetric measurement and limb circumference differences on other two studies and one study underwent descriptive analysis. The current level of evidence to support the effectiveness of compression therapy on lymphedema postmastectomy which was included in meta-analysis remains weak |
