Abstract Nanoporous and nanoflakes tungsten oxide (WO) based photoanodes 3 were produced via one step anodization method. The effect of annealing temperature on the morphological, structural and optical properties was studied. Photoelectrochemical activity test reveals that nanoflakes annealed at 500oC exhibited a superior photocatalytic performance among the other samples. In the second part of the thesis, an electrochemical method is proposed to study the nature of the defect states inside promising sub-stoichiometric tungsten oxide nanoflake via annealing under different streams of gases. Optical, structural and PEC characterization confirmed the presence of defect states (oxygen vacancies). A defect sensitivity factor is proposed and used to indicate whether defect states in each electrode are mostly deep or shallow in nature |
