Abstract The aim of this study is to evaluate levels of the natural radionuclides and trace metals found in soil and recycled demolition debrin samples collected from parts of the north of Sinai peninsula and Gaza strip and to assess the radiological hazards associated with the natural radioactivity and the contamination levels of trace metals. The activity contaminations of naturally occurring radionuclides ²³⁸U, ²³²Th and ⁴{u⁰⁰B⁰}K were determined using a hyper-Pure germanium detector (HPGe) in a low background configuration, while the concentrations of trace metals were determined by means of inductively coupted optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). Owing to the fruitful future of the Sinai peninsula and the close proximity of the Gaza strip, it is of great importance to assess the radiological hazards and contamination levels in these regions |
