Abstract

To evaluate effectiveness of Platelet-Rich Plasma injection in enhancing healing in all inside arthroscopic meniscal repair using meniscal anchors to find the best way for clinical healing of menisceal tears regarding clinical and functional outcome. Background: Meniscal tears are the most common intrarticular knee injury, comprising 75% or more of all internal derangements of the knee. When menisci are injured, treatment is centered on both symptomatic relief (e.g., pain and mechanical symptoms) as well as prevention of further sequel (e.g., osteoarthritis and cartilage degeneration). Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has received attention as a promising strategy to help induce healing and has been shown to do so both in vitro and in vivo. Although PRP has been used in clinical practice for some time, to date, few clinical studies support its use in meniscal repair. Methods: Sixty patients with menisceal tears during the period between July 2015 and August 2016, were managed by all inside arthroscopic meniscal repair using meniscal anchors. The patients were divided on randomization basis into two groups each involving 30 patients group (A) done meniscal repair without PRP injection and group (B) done meniscal repair with PRP injection, fellow up were for six months for each case. Results: This study showed slight difference in clinical out-come and meniscal healing between all-inside meniscal suture repair with or without PRP injection. One case in non PRP group showed post-operative swelling and Synovitis, while in PRP group six cases showed post-operative swelling and Synovitis. But all cases after medical treatment for edema and Synovitis with excessive physiotherapy they achieved pre injury level of activity
