Abstract

Both C. jejuni and C. coli are highly prevalent in chickens, along the chicken production system and in chicken farms in Egypt. Control measures for exposure and contamination of the chicken supply should be identified so that methods can be developed to protect human exposure to Campylobacter spp. Multiplex PCR was found to be more reliable than the conventional cultural methods in species level for identification and differentiation of Campylobacter isolates. Further extensive epidemiological studies at different geographical areas, need to be carried to discover the prevalence, magnitude and importance of Campylobacter infection in animals and birds. The detection of Campylobacter virulence markers can be utilized as a simple and rapid tool to discriminate stains recovered from different sources The prevention and control of C. jejuni in poultry would reduce the risk of human exposure to Campylobacter and is an important food safety issue. {u2022} Antimicrobial resistance in Campylobacter isolated from chicken is widespread and may be increasing. The trend towards increasing levels of antimicrobial resistance among Campylobacter isolates from poultry has implications for containing outbreaks of drug resistant strains in humans. Supplementation with immunostimulant drug preparation in chickens leads to an enhanced state of resistance to various kinds of pathogenic bacteria infections to restore cell-mediated immune function in peripheral T lymphocytes and stimulates phagocytosis by monocytes
