Abstract

Objectives: Revision of endometrial hyperplasia cases primarily diagnosed by the WHO system (1994) and reclassifying cases with endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia (EIN) criteria. Reclassification of cases according to WHO 2014. Investigation of PTEN expression status in the reclassified cases using immunohistochemistry. Study design: The study included seventy cases diagnosed as,18cases of simple endometrial hyperplasia without atypia, 2 cases diagnosed as simple endometrial hyperplasia with atypia 25 complex hyperplasia without atypia, 5 cases diagnosed as complex hyperplasia with atypia and 20 cases diagnosed as endometrial hyperplastic polyps. The cases were obtained from pathology Department, Cairo university. Results: Reinvestigation of cases revealed one case had the criteria of endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia. A significant difference in PTEN expression among cases according to slide area staining in relation to histopathological diagnosis P-value 0.02. PTEN expression increased with benign hyperplasia and decreased with atypical hyperplasia. Most cases shared atypia and crowding showed PTEN loss (66.6%) while 77.4% of benign hyperplasia showed strong PTEN reactivity. Conclusion: This study contributed to the endometrial hyperplasia according to WHO classification 1994 and 2014 allowing difference between them histopathologically and immunohistochemically
