Abstract The present study was undertaken to compare the characteristics of spinal block, hemodynamic effect and postoperative analgesia of dexmedetomidine or neostigmine given intrathecally with 0.5% bupivacaine for spinal anesthesia. Methods: 54 female patients{u2019} age between 30-60 years classified as ASA grade I and II were randomly divided into three equal groups scheduled for cesarean section. group I were received 10 mg (2ml) hyperbaric bupivacaine and 0.1 ml (10 æg) DXM and 0.1 ml normal saline , group 2 were received 10 mg (2ml) hyperbaric bupivacaine and 0.1 ml (50 æg) neostigmine and 0.1 ml normal saline and Group3 were received 10 mg (2ml) hyperbaric bupivacaine and 0.2 ml normal saline as control. All the parameters were recorded. Results: The group I had early onset of sensory and motor block as compared to group II. The duration of sensory and motor block was significantly prolonged in group I than group II. The postoperative analgesia was significantly longer in group both group I and II as compare to group III with minimal postoperative side effects. group I provides stable hemodynamic condition as compare to group II. Conclusion: The 10 æg dexmedetomidine seem to be an attractive alternative to 50 æg neostigmine as an adjuvant to spinal bupivacaine in c.s patients |
