Abstract

Introduction: Kidney transplantation has been established as the most efficient treatment of end stage renal disease with the advantage for the patient to live a nearly healthy life. Gastrointestinal complications after kidney transplantation are associated with inferior graft outcomes. Objective: to detects gastrointestinal complications in kidney transplantation children and to find out possible risk factors for these complications and their effects on the graft. Patients and methods: Sixty post renal transplantation Egyptian children on regular follow up in renal transplantation clinic in AboElreesh hospital were enrolled to detailed history and physical examination, laboratory investigation. Helicobacter pylori Ag in stool was done for all included children. Further imaging and endoscopic interventions were done if needed. Results: Duration of transplantation, intake of mycophenolate and the dose of maintenance steroids were the significant risk factors (independent predictors) contributing to presence of gastrointestinal complications in renal transplant patients with P- value 0.028, 0.046, and 0.005 respectively. Conclusion: GI complications are major, serious and common post RTx complication. Duration of transplantation, intake of Mycophenolate and the dose of maintenance steroids were the significant risk factors contributing to presence of gastrointestinal complications in renal transplant patients. H pylori is common infection post RTx
