Abstract

Different soil samples from different Egyptian localities in Giza governorate collected and investigated for different Streptomyces species were isolated and purified from Egyptian localities using serial dilution techniques. All Streptomyces isolates were identified by using morphological and physiological characteristics according to International Streptomyces Project (ISP) and also identified according to molecular identification sequences of 16S rRNA gene for confirming the morphological and physiological identification. The resulting sequences of 16S rRNA gene of the different Streptomyces isolates were compared with those available in GenBank using the Blast analysis for Streptomyces isolates which confirmed the results of morphological and physiological identification that the isolates were Streptomyces vinaceusdrappus, Streptomyces tendae, Streptomyces rochei , Streptomyces variabillis, Streptomyces labedae, Streptomyces aureofaciens, Streptomyces enissocaesilis, Streptomyces plicatus, Streptomyces flavoviridis, Streptomyces lienomycini, Streptomyces tritolerans,Streptomyces lateritius, Streptomyces vinaceusdrappus, Streptomyces vinaceusdrappus and Streptomyces mutabilis, respectively. Potato scab is an important wide spread disease caused by Streptomyces scabies. Actinophages affect the composition and diversity of bacterial population, thereby, can be used as biological control. Two specific phages against Streptomyces scabies were isolated from different potato fields in different locations in Giza, Egypt. Phages were partially characterized using Electron Microscope and genome structure
