Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess the capability of diffusion weighted imaging and magnetic resonance spectroscopy in probing the proclivity of malignancy in diseases. Subjects and Methods: Twenty-one patients with lesions in the maxillofacial area were enrolled in this study through consecutive sampling. Diffusion weighted imaging and magnetic resonance spectroscopy were performed for all candidates, where apparent diffusion coefficient values, choline and lactate metabolites were assessed. Results: Lactate had the highest diagnostic capability, whereas choline was the lowest with no diagnostic significance. According to likelihood interpretation, lactate and ADC map3 showed the best performance. Conclusion: The integration of diffusion weighted imaging and magnetic resonance spectroscopy had a great impact in the differential process of benign from malignant entities
