Abstract The objective of the research is to determine the effects of increased hillside angle Ý, and combination of internal pressure with nozzle moments on plastic and shakedown limits. A shell finite element model is built for a cylindrical vessel with a hillside nozzle having five different hillside angles. Various load combinations of applied internal pressure and external nozzle moment are studied. The results show increasing load carrying capacities for both steady and cyclic loads as hillside angles increases. Internal pressure has shown a weakening effect on the connection IP limit and shakedown moments. The internal pressure has a stiffening effect on the OP limit moment and no effect on the, the OPO shakedown limit moments |
