Abstract

The aim of the present study was to design, manufacturer and evaluate a hand-held harvester for olive. The design was based on the following criteria: using local raw materials in the manufacture of the equipment, providing simple design and easy in both operation and maintenance. The machine was tested and evaluated for three varieties of olive, (Krotina - kornaki- Manzanalo) at the Experimental Farm of Agricultural Production and Research Station (APRS), National Research Centre (NRC), El Nubaria Province, El-Behaira Governorate, Egypt. The testing of the machine was carried out under the effect of three main factors; shaking frequency (900, 1250 and 1600 rpm), shaking duration (1, 2and 3 min), spraying and no spraying for loosening agent (mono potassium phossphite (KH₂PO₄ - 4%) while the evaluation was based on harvest productivity, damage percent and human factors. The results showed that highest harvest productivity and low damage percent were obtained with spraying (KH₂PO₄ - 4%) after two weeks at 1600 (rpm) and 3 (min), and 900 (rpm) and 3 (min) respectively. The productivity with spraying (KH₂PO₄ - 4%) after two week were 5322 g, 2728 g and 3010 g for kornaki, Manzanalo, and Krotina respectively. Damage percent with spraying (KH₂PO₄ - 4%) after two week were 6.11% at 900 rpm, 8.82% at 1250 rpm, and 7.36% at 900 rpm for kornaki, Manzanalo, and Krotina respectively. The productivity with spraying after one week were 4698 g, 2432 g and 2613 g for kornaki, Manzanalo, and Krotina respectively. Damage percent with spraying after one week were 6.96 % at 1250 rpm, 8.32% at 1250 rpm, and 7.62% at 1250 rpm for kornaki, Manzanalo, and Krotina respictevely
