Abstract

Background: a new reality is obligated that electronic information system (EIS) adoption is recognized for advanced nursing processes. The Egyptian health organizations have little attention in EIS adoption, thus inappropriate staff preparedness is a challenge of EIS compliance and application. Aim: the current study assessed the nurses{u2019} readiness for using EIS at a selected hospital in Giza governorate. Study design: a descriptive exploratory research design was utilized to achieve the aim. Sample: a sample (92) of nursing staff included in the study. Tool of data collection: data were collected by a developed tool 2Nurses{u2019} Readiness Questionnaire for Using the Electronic Information System3 it consists of two parts; nurses{u2019} socio-demographic and work related data, nurses{u2019} attitude, perception, and computer skills. Results: the results of this study revealed that, majority of nurses had a positive attitude toward using EIS, and highly perceived EIS using, while the highest percent of them placed on the low computer skills level. Statistical significant relations were found between nurses{u2019} socio-demographic data with nurses{u2019} perception and computer skills. The study concluded most of nurses had a positive attitude and highly perceived the EIS using, while they had low computer skills. Recommendations: the current study recommended that, conduct practical training courses on basic computer skills and applications, informatics educational programs should be incorporated into orientation program, encourage nurses to attend conferences/ workshops. Besides, organizational infrastructure has to be financially supported, equipped and positioned
