Abstract

The effect of exogenous progesterone on fetal nuchal translucency (NT) has been proposed recently. In this study, we aimed to compare the thickness of NT of patients receiving and not receiving progesterone.Material and methods:This study was designed as a prospective comparative study. 40 women treated with progesterone constituted the study group whereas 40 women who were not treated with progesterone constituted the control group. An ultra-sonographic examination was performed on all the women to measure NT. The main parameters recorded for each woman were; age, obstetrical characteristics, and gestational age at first examination and treatment dose and duration of progesterone therapy. Results:A total of 80 pregnant women were included in this study. The mean NT thickness was statistically significantly higher in the study group (p < 0.001), there was also statistically significant difference between groups in terms of age, crown rump length and mode of previous delivery. The dose of progesterone, duration and indication of intake didn{u2019}t statistically relate to the thickness of nuchal translucency. Conclusions:We think that exogenous progesterone therapy may increase NT
