Abstract

This study was conducted in 1255 fish, which represented in 715 Oreochromis spp., 285 C. carpio and 255 C. gariepinus of different life stages. The fishes were obtained a live from Sahl El-Housinia private fish farm and El-Abbassa fish farm in Sharkia governorate during the different seasons of the year. They were subjected to clinical and bacteriological examination to determine prevalence of Proteus spp. infection. Moreover, the identification was confirmed by using Vitek 2 system, API 20 kits, and PCR. A total of 220 O. niloticus were used for determination of pathogenicity, virulence and LD50 of the P. mirabilis isolates isolated from naturally infected fishes. Meanwhile, 600 O. niloticus were used to determine the therapeutic and prophylactic effects of TP and CP in O. niloticus infected with P. mirabilis in comparison to CE antibiotic. The investigation included some immunological (lysozyme and NO), protein profile, hepato-renal indices (ALT, AST, creatinine, and urea), stress related indices (glucose and cortisol) and hepatic antioxidant indices (CAT, SOD, and GSH).
