Abstract

In objective of mitigation of the power intermittency associated with renewable sources, the research community has introduced many techniques in order to provide the power systems with the necessary stability and reliability. Electric Spring (ES) has been examined as one of the load side demand management techniques that can represent a real potential for achieving stability and power quality functions. This thesis attempts to introduce ES combined with Model Predictive control (MPC). MPC is a promising control method that can deal with highly fast response needs and alternating parameter systems. ES was studied for multiple functions, mainly voltage regulation on a specified load; however, power factor correction and harmonics suppression were objectives of some proposed systems. This thesis emphasizes on critical load voltage regulation exploiting the imbedded abilities of Modulated MPC.
