المستخلص The study aimed to identify the level of post-traumatic stress disorder and the level of psychological immunity, and to know the relationship between them in a sample of women with cancer, as well as to determine the effect of the age variable in women with cancer in post-traumatic stress disorder, also to identify the relationship between post-traumatic stress disorder in women with cancer and the psychological adjustment of their children, and determining the differences between males and females of children of women with cancer in psychological adjustment, and finally determining the extent of the contribution of post-traumatic stress disorder in women with cancer in predicting the psychological adjustment of their children, and the study sample consisted of (202) women with cancer, whose ages ranged between (34-55) years, and (234) adolescents of their children, by (97) males and (137) females, whose ages ranged between (12-18) years, by using the post-traumatic stress disorder scale (prepared by: the researcher), the psychological immunity scale (prepared by: the researcher), and the psychological adjustment scale (prepared by: the researcher), the results indicated a high level of PTSD and a low level of psychological immunity among women with cancer, a negative and statistically significant correlation between PTSD and psychological immunity, and there were statistically significant differences between younger women with cancer and older women with cancer in post-traumatic stress disorder on the younger side, the results also indicated the existence of a negative and statistically significant correlation between post-traumatic stress disorder among women with cancer and the psychological adjustment of their children, the existence of a large effect of PTSD among women with cancer on the psychological adjustment of their children, except for the effect of the dimension (functional impairment in life areas) on children’s personal and social adjustment, which was a medium effect, and the presence of statistically significant differences in the psychological adjustment between males and females on the males side, and finally the results indicated that the post-traumatic stress disorder in women with cancer has predictive ability to psychological adjustment in their children, and the strongest predictive factors were: intrusion symptoms associated with cancer, avoidance of stimuli associated with cancer, depersonalization and derealization, and negative alterations in cognitions and mood associated with cancer. |
