Abstract

Previous studies found that, dysbiosis of intestinal microbiota in diabetic kidney disease (DKD), especially the decreased SCFA-producing bacteria. We aimed to investigate the concentration of serum short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) in individuals with DKD and reveal the correlations between SCFAs and renal function. Methods: The study included 80 subjects classified into four groups; group 1: 20 healthy volunteers as a control, group 2: 20 diabetic patients with microalbuminuria, group 3: 20 diabetic patients with heavy proteinuria and group 4: 20 diabetic patients with renal impairments.
