Abstract

The thyroid gland is one of the most exposed vital organs and is a target for electromagnetic radiation. Its structural and functional alterations are caused by non-ionizing radiation including a wide range of technological devices such as Wi-Fi, phones, and magnetic resonance imaging. Vitamin C, E and Zinc are antioxidants that are positive modulators of thyroid hormones. Vitamin C can promote thyroid health by reducing oxidative stress produced in the gland either by harmful free radicals or from reactive oxygen species produced during exposure to radiations. The present study is designed to clarify the effect of electromagnetic radiation emitted from Wi-Fi router on the thyroid gland of adult male albino rat at different durations of exposure. This work also aims to study the possible protective role of administration of combined vitamin C and zinc. It is performed using histological and ultrastructural study.
