Abstract Various heterocyclic compounds can be electrochemically oxidized in non-aqueous media to form electrically conducting polymers. This work explores the effect of polymerizing two different compounds; 2-aminopyrimidine (2-AP) and 3-methyl thiophene (3-MeT) to form a new synthesized conducting copolymer (2-AP-Co-3-MeT).2-aminopyrimidine and 3- methylthiophene were electrochemically polymerized to form the copolymer.Various feed ratios of the two monomers were used to determine the optimal concentrations and parameters using cyclic voltammetry technique. The oxidation potentials of the 2-AP&3-MeT polymers and their copolymer were determined through cyclic voltammetry. The optimal parameters for the electropolymerization of the (2-AP-Co-3-MeT) copolymer have been estimated and the electrochemical characteristics of the copolymer has been investigated in both non-aquous and aqueous media using platinum electrode as the working electrode. Controlled potential electrolysis (CPE) used to separate the polymers produced (Poly 2-AP and Poly 3-MeT) to elucidate the mechanism of electropolymerization of both homopolyme |
