Abstract Aim: To evaluate the antimicrobial effect of pre-synthesized antibiotic loaded electrospun nanofibers in immature necrotic teeth. Methods: MTAP loaded nanofibers were fabricated by electrospinning. In the first visit, access cavity was prepared and the first sample (S1) was acquired. The canals were lightly instrumented, irrigated using sodium hypochlorite, a second sampling was performed (S2). For the intervention group MTAP nanofibers were used. For the comparator group MTAP paste was placed. After 2-3 weeks, the medicament was removed to collect the third samples (S3). The intracanal bacterial count was determined. Surface morphology of nanofiber was studied. The survival rate was evaluated after 3 and 6 months. Results: Both MTAP nanofibers and MTAP paste resulted in significant reduction of bacterial count. MTAP nanofibers resulted in a significantly higher bacterial reduction and a higher number of bacteria free teeth. Conclusions: The MTAP loaded electrospun nanofibers had a better antimicrobial effect compared to regular MTAP. |
