Abstract

Background: Breastfeeding is the ideal and most natural way of nurturing infants, it maintain the maternal fetus link favors the transmission of immune-competence from the mother to her infant Aim of Study: To determine and compare effects of aerobic exercise versus relaxation technique on immunity of lactating women. Subjects and Methods: Thirty breast feeding mother with a single, healthy and full-term infant without complications, six weeks postpartum, their ages ranged between 20 to 35 years old and their body mass index (BMI) did not exceed 30 kg/ m2.Were divided into to equal group. group (A) composed of 15 breast feeding women who received nutritional counseling and engaged in a supervised and standardized exercises program in form of moderate aerobic exercise at duel of 60 to 70 % of HRmax for 30 minutes /day, 3 days /week for 4 weeks. While group (B) composed of 15 breast feeding women who received nutritional counseling and relaxation training program three days per week for 4 weeks. Assessment all participant were done before and after treatment through measuring the mother’s and the infants weight as will as IGA concentration and cortisol level in the blood. Results: Women in group A & B showed significant increase in IGA concentration and infant’s weight post treatment compared with pretreatment, and also there were significant increase in IGA concentration of group A compared with group B post treatment. And women in group A & B showed significant decrease in cortisol level and mother’s weight post treatment compared with pretreatment, and also there were significant decreased in group A compared with group B post treatment. Conclusion: Moderate exercise had more effect than relaxation techniques not only on the breast- feeding mothers but also on their infant s through improving the immunity of breast-feeding mothers.
