Abstract
The aim of the present study was to carry out filed morphological and histopathological studies on clinically affected equine sarcoid cases in different localities in Egypt and evaluate the efficacy of certain available treatments on some clinically presented equine sarcoid cases in the present work a total number of 159 equine sarcoid cases (80 horses and 79 donkeys) of different ages and sexes were recorded. Preliminary diagnosis was decided on morpho-clinical features of the lesion and definitive diagnosis was achieved after histopathological assessment of surgically excised biopsies. Epidemiological studies revealed that the majority of the cases were from south region (Luxor and Aswan) 49.6% followed by the middle region (Cairo and Giza) 40.8% and last the north region (Alexandria) 11.3%. In this work 4 different therapeutic approaches were used to treat equine sarcoid: surgical excision, cytoloxic topical application of AW4 cream, topical application of podophylum mixture and immunotherapy by infection of BCG vaccine intratumoral. The results showed that the successful treatment of sarcoid depended on sign, location, type and number of sarcoid. The use of post {u2013} operation liquid nitrogen freezing spray was followed by complete recovery and no recurrence. Conclusion: Avoid housing of equine with bovines minor skin injury should be early treated.
