The thesis main objective is to introduce a general outline of this kind of energy notably that this kind of energy doesn{u2019}t enter the domain of interest of Egyptian government yet. Afterward, an application of conventional PI controller for generator side converter based permanent-magnet synchronous generator in order to improve the maximum power tracking capability of hydrokinetic turbine is also presented. The PI parameters are obtained by using two different optimization techniques: Genetic algorithm and biogeography-Based Optimization Technique. In addition, novel approach for hydrokinetic turbine application will be introduced for magnifying the total electric energy from hydraulic structures by means of installing hydrokinetic turbines{u2019} farm is presented. The same is expected to increase the total harnessed electric energy by 15% of the existing produced energy. This proposed approach is verified by using the data of 2D spillway physical model of new Assiut barrage in Egypt which has been built in the hydraulic laboratory of Hydraulics Research Institute, delta barrage, Egypt. This physical model simulates the actual structure of the new assiut barrage with scaling factors. Economical assessment for the proposed approach is performed by means of genetic algorithm to find the optimum arrangement of the hydrokinetic turbines to magnify the captured energy and the total annual profit
