Abstract

Acoustical marine geophysical devices are sound sources that work by transmitting and receiving the sound waves that are reflected, diffracted or scattered off the bottom. Single beam echo-sounders connected with acoustic seabed classification system (QTC) that provide water depth and indices relating to the nature of the seabed below the boat, and side scan sonar that provide continuous information about the seabed over a wide swath, in combination with ground-truth data: bottom samples analysis and (ROV) video camera images, were used to detect recent seabed features of the study area, at the east of Alexandria coast on the Mediterranean coast of Egypt. The acoustic classes and the backscatter data divided the study area into three acoustic categories
