Abstract

Aim of the work: to evaluate miRNA-210 as a urinary molecular marker for bladder cancer detection. Conclusion: Depending on the fact that miRNAs have been shown to be released from tumor cells to the circulation and will be a novel class of noninvasive biomarkers for cancer diagnosis and prognosis; we started our work to evaluate the miRNA-210as a tumor marker for bladder cancer. When we came to the end of our study, we found that miRNA-210 can be considered as a tumor marker for screening high risk group and early detection of bladder cancer as this marker showed marked differentiation between malignant, benign and healthy normal groups. Our results show that urinary miRNA-210 had superior sensitivity over cytology. Combining both methods raised the sensitivity to 88.5%. MiRNA-210 is also a good urinary tumor marker for low grade(grade1+2) and superficial bladder cancer, increasing the sensitivity of urinary cytology to 88.9% and 96.9% in each of them respectively. This study is the first study to evaluate the diagnostic value of MiRNA-210 in bladder cancer associated with bilharziasis.
