Abstract

During recent years, the energy demand is appreciably increasing against the decreasing reserves of fossil and {uFB01}ssile resources. The photovoltaic (PV) energy as an inexhaustible and clean source can reply to that demand. The photovoltaic power can be connected to the grid, either in large-scale or small-scale plants. Thus, the photovoltaic source is called on to provide the maximum of its output power. Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is one of the important aspects of the photovoltaic system, which optimizes the output power and efficiency of a photovoltaic system. A comparative study between perturb and observe (P&O) method and incremental conductance (IncCond) method using the PID controller is performed in this thesis. To investigate the response of the maximum power point tracking methods under changing solar irradiance and temperature a simulation study has been established by MATLAB/SIMULINK. Experimental work has been conducted to test the response of both methods to solar radiation changes, and to compare between the proposed maximum power point tracking methods
